ABOUT US

The Frankston Dolphins Football Netball Club was born out of the Frankston Dolphins Junior Football Club during its 50th year anniversary in 2017.

The Frankston Dolphins Junior Football Club started life as the Frankston VFA Junior Football Club in the early 1960's and was based at the Dolphins senior oval at Kars Street, Frankston.  In the mid 1970's the junior club moved to its current location at Overport Park, Frankston South.

The junior club enjoyed strong growth, particularly following the commencement of its Auskick programme in 2003, which saw participation steadily increase to in excess of 100 children, which in turn flowed through to entry level junior teams.

In 2016, the junior club fielded 17 teams with over 370 players, including two girls teams and the club's first Under 17 team. This grew to a record 19 teams in 2017 with the introduction of a third girl's team and a senior women's team playing under the junior club banner.

For a number of years, the Frankston Dolphins Junior Football Club had been one of the largest football clubs and junior sporting clubs in the City of Frankston.  â€‹As a result of the growing participation, particularly at higher age levels, the junior committee decided to explore the options available for junior club players to continue their involvement in football at a senior level, including the establishment of a senior football club affiliated with the Frankston Dolphins Junior Football Club.

In July 2016 the junior club committee formally voted to establish a senior club to provide a pathway to senior football for junior Dolphin's players and a working party was formed to oversee the establishment of the Frankston Dolphins Football Netball Club.

The working group set about researching the most viable option of establishing senior football and it soon became apparent that the best opportunity for a newly established football club to be competitive was via entry into a divisional football competition and a formal application for affiliation was lodged with the Southern Football Netball League in October 2017, which was formally approved and endorsed by AFL Vic on 20 November 2017.

Season 2018 saw the senior club successfully field three senior teams (two men’s and one women’s) playing in the Southern Football Netball League, with all three teams making finals in our inaugural year.

The success of 2018 laid a sound foundation for the club and we found ourselves as a destination club, with a number of players seeking to join the Dolphins due to our inclusive and family oriented culture.

Season 2019 saw the introduction of netball, with the club fielding two teams (Division 3 & Division 8), the redevelopment of our second oval completed and construction of new club rooms commenced. On the field, both our Seniors and Reserves teams again made finals, with our Reserves securing the senior clubs first premiership off the back of an undefeated season.

The Covid pandemic put an end to the 2020 season before it started, just as we were ready to field Under 19's for the first time and welcome back women's football at the club, but we carried the momentum from the 2020 pre-season into 2021 and saw our first Under 19's football take to the field in Division 2 of the SFNL, in what was a fantastic inaugural season that saw them finish second on the ladder. Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions, finals were cancelled for all grades of football and netball. Women's football also returned and a stellar season saw them finish on top of the ladder and awarded the Minor Premiers flag, as were our B Grade netballers who also finished atop the ladder.
